SEM/SEO Job: Hilton Hotels (Los Angeles, CA)

Here's a really nice big brand for your resume:  Hilton Hotels

Hilton is hiring an in-house SEM/SEO for their office in Beverly Hills. An amazing location - near great eateries, shops and boutiques.  I drove by it all the time when I loved in LA - it really is a great spot.

It's a great opportunity to propel your career with a really big brand if you have 1-2 years of experience -- something like this doesn't come around often. The only catch, you need to be local to LA (no relocation assistance).

Within the organization the position sits in interactive marketing, and you'll have the opportunity to move up within the company if SEO isn't what you want to do forever.

The best part -- Free hotel stays!
Great for the passionate vacationer, they have a Hilton Employee Travel Program where you can stay for free at any Hilton owned and managed hotel.  And, you get a discount on any franchised property.  (based on availability, of course)

They also claim a nice 401k matching program -- not all companies match the 401k.

Some lucky SEO is going to have an uber-cool job.

SEO Job: In-house SEO Needed, Car Market, Moving Quickly

To fill the gap as I figure out what's next after leaving Yahoo!, I'm consulting with a company to build their in-house SEO program. One of the first steps is hiring an in-house SEO team, it's a great opportunity, and they want to move very quickly... as in  let's set up interviews in the next couple of days!

What you'll love about the job:

  • The domain has been around for 10 years, TheCarConnection.com
  • You will NOT have the typical challenges faced by an in-house SEO. The team seems very open to advice, they just need someone to give them direction
  • It's a great group of people, very wise. You'll learn a lot from them about business in general -- especially now while it's small and the big-brains are very accessible.

  • SEO is such a high priority, you'll probably be talking to the CEO every day in the beginning (I am) and he's really sharp, and not a stereotypical CEO. He sold a startup a few years ago, then took a few years off traveling and enjoying the good life. I'd want to learn from someone like that.

  • The website is 10 years old, and was purchased by a startup, The Car Advisory Network. The company is ventured backed.
  • It's so new, I haven't seen more than 20 people in the office and if you know anything about startups, it means you'll get equity.
  • Much of the beginning SEO dirty work is will be done by the time you get in (lucky me!), you'll get to come in, review the proposed strategy, expand with your ideas and start executing.

Here are the details:

  • Car industry experience a plus
  • Location: Palo Alto, CA (seems like a nice college town, I'm working on-site and scoping the neighborhood because I like it here) If you want to live in San Francisco or San Jose, no problem - just take the train and walk to the office, that's what I do.
  • Yes, relocation is available.

  • Excellent at managing people, especially internal cients
  • Experience working with multiple clients, as you'll be working with several different business units.
  • Experience managing multi-million dollar campaigns (as in don't apply if you don't have this one)

I'm for hire! And am going to kick out some cool stuff for In-house SEOs

As you know by now, life at Yahoo! wasn't pleasant this week and I'm happy to report that that their in-house SEO program is now so good, that I was laid off!

I knew that my job would be done when an in-house evangelist wasn't needed anymore. On the way out I got hugs from engineers… it was a job well done.

I am now entertaining offers for in-house SEO positions.

In the meantime, I'm quite excited about what's coming next. While I now have a great notch on the belt, I'm going take a few weeks to act on the projects that I've been wanting to do for the in-house community for a while.

What's in store for the in-house SEO community:

  • There are a few unfilled in-house training needs that I'm going to address. Expect me to be pinging you guys for thoughts.

  •  SEOinhouse.com will be coming in March/April. I have a few an ideas for the domain's phase one, but was wondering what the community thought would make the site a must-use resource for in-house SEOs.  Let me know your thoughts at:  seoinhouse at gmail dot com
  •  Now that I'm publicly looking for an in-house SEO job, I'm going to invite you to an up-close-and-personal view of what's out there and what it takes to get the really great gigs. Stay tuned!
  •  And if time permits… I'm going to get off typepad, ditch this ugly red blog template and get a proper looking blog. :)

I want to thank ALL my industry friends who have checked in, responded so quickly despite busy schedules, and sent job leads and sent oodles of encouragement. Even Rand Fishkin answered my call in the midst of his Oprah limo excitement – he had just taped his Oprah debut. Now that's a good friend!! I can never thank you all enough!

Webinar: SEO Career Planning

SEMPO is offering an interesting webinar on SEO Career Planning & the salary survey we took a while back.

Sounds like they have in-housers commenting on the data, and you'll get a few details useful when looking for your next in-house SEO job.

Who's looking for an in-house SEO job right now?

I came in this morning with a voice-mail that makes me green with envy because some lucky SEO is gonna get a super cool gig. The call was from a recruiter looking to hire an in-house SEO to build an in-house SEO program. I'm discreet, so I won't say who the company is, but it's uber-cool and if I weren't happily employed by Yahoo!, I'd be applying.

So, my question is, who is looking for an in-house SEO job right now?  Lots of recruiters call me, but most of my contacts have just signed on for new 'gigs.

If you're interested in me sending you info on jobs I think you might be a good fit for, let me know by sending an email and resume to: jessica bowman at gmail dot com, with the subject "I'm looking for an in-house SEO Job".  If you're comfortable, the salary range you're after would be nice, because when recruiters call the ranges are all over the board.

And, as always, MUM'S THE WORD, AND IT'S TOTALLY CONFIDENTIAL.
