At SEOinhouse.com we get to meet a lot of really talented in-housers who have become friends. We’re constantly asking questions of them because they have a wealth of real-life examples, and as anyone in SEO knows, there is no end to the learning. A favorite question we ask in-house SEOs is,
“What do you wish someone had told you when you started as an in-house SEO that would have propelled your SEO program to the next level faster?”
We captured this response from four leading in-house SEOs. Both new SEOs and veterans alike can learn from the experiences of others. Enjoy!
Leanne Johnson, Global Senior Marketing Manager at Skype
Ryan Boots, SEO Specialist at Spark Energy
Thomas Ballantyne, Director of Marketing at Bulwark Pest Control
Brian Kleisner, Director of Search Engine Marketing at Thompson Reuters.
Q: “What do you wish someone had told you when you started as an in-house SEO that would have propelled your SEO program to the next level faster?”
Brian: Get involved with your brand marketers, PR and customer insight teams early on and connect them to each other. These groups influence how consumers think about your products and brands. The earlier you begin to understand how consumers think about the problems your products solve, and weave that into your search strategy and play it back through PR and advertising, the sooner you will see your search program take off.
Thanks again Brian, Thomas, Leanne, and Ryan for sharing those tips!
If you want to ask candid questions of in-house SEOs from some of the top SEO programs, attend the upcoming In-house SEO Exchange, February 27th in San Jose. This is a closed-door event bringing together some of the brightest in-house SEOs for candid conversations and brainstorming. We look forward to meeting new faces!
