What makes it so great:  It’s one of the biggest SEO budgets we’ve seen in years, and you’ll manage it all.   You’ll have a staff at your disposal to help you execute the tasks as you guide the strategy and keep things moving forward.  It’s not a political corporate environment, the focus will be more on a strategic approach for what to do, and making it happen.  Lastly, it’s a very competitive salary, I’m not allowed disclose the numbers, but it could even excite some west coasters to move to the DC area.

A Networking Strategy for SMX West

We’ve all heard the virtues of networking.  Whether it excites you, terrifies you, or you’re generally indifferent towards it, networking should be one of the reasons you’re coming to SMX West 2010.  With this popular event just around the corner we can all use a reminder of the best practices.  With a deliberate strategy in mind you’re bound to leave with valuable new relationships.

Come With A Plan:  Many people have no problem coming to a conference and meeting lots of new faces, but to make the most of your time you should be strategic about your approach. Decide who you want to meet, or at least the types of people you’d like to speak with.  Try to find out where they’ll be: which sessions, which parties, which hotels.  It’s easy to meet a ton of new people at an event like SMX West, but decide first who you would like to talk to, what you would like to ask, and what you can offer to the conversation. 

TIP:  If there are speakers you want to meet, hang out after the session – they are more than happy to speak with you.

TIP:  Hang out at the hotel lobby bar after 10pm. At SMX West in particular everyone hangs out here well into the night.

Helpful Tips for SMX West 2010

Here are a handful of helpful tips to make the most of SMX West 2010.

TIP #1: The best seats are up front in a room where you typically find tables with outlets for your laptop. So show up early if you want a good seat, but don’t bury your head in your laptop until the session begins. Use the minutes before the session begins to meet the people sitting beside you; these can be great networking opportunities.
