Just because you ask for a redirect to be 301, instead of 302, don't assume it's been implemented correctly. Be sure to go out to check it, I can't tell you the number of times I thought we had 301 redirects (because I had requested them) and it turns out they were actually 302. It's an easy fix, it's just that you have to identify it.
I check redirects with this SEO Logic's Redirect Checker.

Hi Jessica, Great post I'm recommending this one to my team! Do you have a stand on CMS's and 301 vs. 302. Our companies CMS allows a mapping feature which is picked up as a 302 should we consider making those 301's instead? Any thought's out there?
