In-house SEMs need a skills set that extends far beyond search. It requires the ability to market yourself, sell search engine marketing, get people to buy into your cause and want to help you execute the search engine marketing strategy.
Even if you are an organization looking to outsource SEM, once the firm gives their recommendations for you to implement, you still have to wade through the IT department for priority, getting the changes made so that they are SEO friendly, and making sure they aren't removed in the future as part of a project that doesn't include search marketing.
This is a blog to help those doing search engine marketing in-house. I've had my challenges when I started, but now I have far more successes than challenges. I've learned how to implement SEO in-house successfully, how to work the politics and use an internal PR campaign to increase the awarenes and interest in search marketing. I hope you will learn from the information in this blog. If you have a topic that should be covered, or if you have a challenge that you'd like to bounce off someone that's been there, done that, drop me a line and it just may be a topic in the blog.... if you're going through it, chances are that many others are as well.
In-housers, let's start helping each other out by passing on what works when you're doing SEM in-house!
